Everything in the first release of Akiba Ledger
Akiba Ledger is in development. This is what its first release is designed to do, for a SACCO in office mode and a savings group in group mode. The pictures are drawn samples with made-up figures.
Members and KYC
Every member with a number, their NIN, phone, next of kin and signed consent, from application to exit.
- The NIN is the key, stored encrypted with a check for duplicates, so one person is one member.
- Start with correct balances: import members and their opening shares, savings and loans from a spreadsheet.
- A member who leaves is settled by journals; their history is never moved or rewritten.
Shares and savings
Shares as permanent capital, compulsory and voluntary savings products, fixed deposits and interest on savings.
Loans on the reducing balance
Loan products with the legal guards built in, guarantors who agree in writing, the committee, cooling-off, the schedule and arrears.
Double-entry books
A chart of accounts for a SACCO, journals that always balance, monthly periods and a nightly check that the members’ balances add up to the books.
Roles, approvals and the audit trail
The maker is never the checker. Roles for each officer, approval limits, and every action recorded with a name.
Reports and returns
Statements, the trial balance and cash book, portfolio at risk, the regulator’s forms, year-end and the AGM pack, all read from the ledger.
Money channels and receipts
Cash at the counter, mobile money, payroll check-off and the bank, each matched to the member, with a receipt for every one.
Group mode for savings groups
For a VSLA or village group: the whole meeting on one phone with no network, the social fund, fines, the lockbox and a share-out that adds up.
